About the event

Since its beginning in 1974, the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival has not only fostered an appreciation for the works of Scott Joplin and his contemporaries, but it has also provided a welcoming platform for the performance of newly composed ragtime pieces.

Over 50 years, the Joplin Festival has hosted dozens (if not hundreds) of composers who have kept the tradition of ragtime alive with new works in a range of styles, some hewing close to the structural and harmonic conventions of the Ragtime Era, others at the vanguard of modern “art music.” Enjoy an exhilarating journey into the music written by Friends of the Scott Joplin Festival, past and present!
